Heinz Chapel Fleche

close up of fleche

The fleche (also referred to as the ‘spire’) of Heinz Chapel is over 83 years old, with the building being completed in 1938. The material used to build the fleche (lead coated copper) has deteriorated to a point where the entire cladding needs to be replaced to ensure structural stability. The University is ensuring that no detail will be lost in a rebuilt fleche. If different material is used for the replacement, the project will be presented to the Historic Review Commission for review and approval.

The chapel will continue to be open for tours and events. Visit the Heinz Memorial Chapel website for additional details.
